My Journey to Working with Dogs: From Pet Shop Days to Passionate Dog Training

My journey with dogs started many years ago when I worked at Kool Pets, a pet shop from the era when you could find all kinds of animals for sale in stores—fish, birds, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, mice, rats, you name it. It was during my time at Kool Pets that I realized my true calling: working with dogs. One pivotal moment in my journey was when I met Jasper, a 9-year-old poodle who had been rescued and was looking for a forever home. Jasper wasn't just any dog; he quickly became a huge part of my life, deepening my love for dogs and solidifying my desire to work with them. Working at the pet shop wasn’t a glamorous job, but it was incredibly rewarding. I enjoyed every aspect of caring for the animals, from ensuring they were comfortable to helping match them with the perfect families. Each day was a learning experience, teaching me how to better understand and care for animals. This hands-on experience laid the foundation for my passion, driving me to pursue a career in dog training. Looking back, those early days were filled with lessons about compassion, responsibility, and the joy of connecting animals with loving homes. They were the start of a journey that led me to where I am today, doing what I love most—working with dogs.
Jasper was a mini poodle like this one
